The UK's top breed:

British Short Hair, the UK's favourite pedigree breed

british short haired cat

British Shorthairs, or Brits as they're commonly called, are large, tough-looking cats. Brits are solid, heavy cats with short legs and necks. Males can weigh up to 16 pounds. Because of the way they look, Brits are a favorite cat among men. Brits have one of the thickest coats in the cat world. If you run your hand down a Brit's back, you'll leave behind an impression just as you would on a plush carpet. Most Brits are solid blue, which is really more like a silvery gray, although other colors and patterns are available. One of the first things you'll notice about Brits is how round they are. Their faces, eyes, and cheeks are all rounded. Their eyes and ears are set wide apart. Their noses are short, but not snubbed like a Persian's.
