Acute
Severe and short course - applied to a disease or a condition.
Adhesions
The joining of together of the tissues, usually applied to organs in the abdominal cavity.
Afterbirth
The membranes (placenta) expelled with the puppies during birth.
Anabolic steroid
A hormone which promotes growth. Anabolics are used only in very specific situations by veterinary surgeons.
Analgesic
A medicine that relieves pain.
Antibiotic
A substance produced by micro-organisms which inhibits the growth of, or destroys bacteria e.g. penicillin.
Antiseptic
A substance that kills or inhibits the growth of micro-organisms.
