15 May 2007 Travellers 'like to know pets are insured'
There is anecdotal evidence that pet owners who are going on holiday want their animal to be protected with a pet insurance policy, it has been claimed. While noting that there is not an increase in sales of pet cover during the summer months, Churchill Pet Insurance reports that many UK travellers who take their dog on their vacation will be worried that their pet may get lost in a strange environment.
Furthermore, the pet insurance provider reports that it sees an increased number of claims for medical expenses as a result of hayfever or allergies during the summer.
"We have been told that customers who are going on holiday in the UK like to know that their pet is insured when they go away," said a spokesperson for the firm.
In November 2006, research from insurance firm Bright Grey revealed that 1.5 per cent of Britons believe that pet insurance is the most important insurance product, below life, home, mortgage and travel cover, but above credit card protection or mobile phone insurance.
