07 March 2007 Three out of four do not have pet insurance
Some 75 per cent of UK owners do not have any form of pet insurance, reveals a new survey.According to pet insurance provider Debenhams, three out of four Britons with pets do not invest in a policy to cover the unexpected costs incurred by vet fees in the event of accident or illness.
In addition, the firm notes that owners who do not take out comprehensive pet insurance are missing out on payments to finance the cost of advertising and providing a reward if their beloved dog or cat goes missing.
"Pets are family members too. We insure our valuable possessions, we should be insuring our pets as well," asserts Diane Jackson, head of personal finance at the company.
The spokesperson also states that Britons taking out pet insurance can benefit from payments towards the cost of bereavement counselling when their animal dies.
Meanwhile, Veterinary Pet Insurance recently announced that it has around 90 different sub-species of animal enrolled on its policy cover programme.
