22 November 2005 RSPCA names dog of the year
A three-year-old dog that was found locked in the boot of a car has been named the RSPCA's pet of the year. Highlighting the need for pet owners to take a responsible attitude to pet care through providing food, shelter and pet insurance, the awards demonstrate the appalling conditions from which loving care from vets and new owners can bring pets back.
Meg, the RSPCA's 2005 winner, beat more than 60 dogs from across the UK with the quality of her condition, general appearance, character and story.
Although Meg at first had problems adjusting to her new house such as house training issues and difficulty interacting with people, she is now completely adjusted.
Runners up include five other dogs who impressed the judges with their troubled pasts and how far they have recovered from them. They are just five of the 19,000 dogs who are re-housed every year due to the insufficient care that some owners offer their pets.
