15 October 2005 Plight of greyhounds highlighted with glamour calendar
Glamour models from all over Britain and Ireland have posed with greyhounds in a calendar designed to help retired racing dogs, according to Lakeland Echo. "Long Legged Beauties" was designed by Stewart and Jenny Stott from Witherslack. The couple hopes that the calendar will raise money for the stricken animals, many of whom are put down after their racing careers are over.
Calendar Girls star Annette Crosby told the newspaper that she thought it was a "wonderful idea". The actress keeps three rescued greyhounds and is a patron of Dumfriesshire Greyhound Rescue, which has homed 200 dogs since it begun in 2001.
She said: "I think this calendar is a wonderful idea. I hope it will help to increase awareness about what happens to these beautiful dogs as well as raising valuable funds to help look after them."
Stewart Stott said that the models were only to bring the calendar to a "wider audience". He hoped he could "show people just what great pets greyhounds can be and also make existing owners of racing dogs more aware that rescue centres are able to find new homes for the animals. We'll also be donating £1 from the sale of each calendar to Dumfriesshire Greyhound Rescue."
