10 February 2006 Pets' heart health focus for Valentine's Day
As Valentine's day approaches pet food provider Iams has urged animal owners to show extra affection to their pet by taking a renewed interest in their animal's heart health. Iams has launched a HEART pledge, under which owners are asked to provide their pet with a Heart healthy diet, Exercise, Annual vet visits, Regular vet visits and Time together.
For those who are keen to follow such a pledge for their animals, pet insurance can help to cover the costs of annual and regular vet visits.
People are also being encouraged to donate to Iams' Friends For Life Fund to help pets beyond those living in their own homes.
"The HEART Pledge and The Iams Friends for Life Fund both help bring people and pets together for a lifetime of health, happiness, and love," said Mike Arms, president of Helen Woodward Animal Centre and member of the shelter advisory board.
For pet owners looking to improve their pet's health, a diet which is rich in amino acids, fatty acids, vitamin E, potassium, sodium, calcium and magnesium can help to support a strong, healthy heart.
