30 July 2007  Pet owners get wet-weather warnings
Pet owners who live in parts of England that have been affected by the recent inclement weather have been warned of the risks to their animal by the consequent flooding.

Direct Line notes that pets in such areas could be lost, suffer limb breakages or poisoning from unclean water.

Carmel McCarthy, public relations manager of the company, said: "Whereas with the sun, you can take the necessary precautions as a pet owner…with a flash flood, your pet could be washed away."

She added that pet insurance can cover the cost of medical treatment incurred from such incidents, as well fund as advertisements to help find a missing pet, while the company advocates that all owners purchase pet cover, irrespective of where they live.

Last week, the Met Office revealed that the rainfall experienced over England and Wales from May to July 2007 has already surpassed all figures for rainfall for the period since records began in 1766.
