03 November 2006 Pet insurance 'absolutely vital' for owners
An online insurance firm has said that it is crucial for owners to ensure that their pets are adequately covered by a cat or dog insurance policy.Online car cover firm switftcover.com has formed an association with Thornside, a pet insurance provider that recently published data stating that a visit to the vets in the UK costs an average of £230.
Andrew Blowers, chief executive officer of swiftcover.com, said: "We're a nation that's renowned for our love of our pets and having adequate cover in place to protect against any unforeseen circumstances is absolutely vital for responsible pet owners."
He added that the increasing costs of looking after animals every year can often dissuade pet owners from purchasing pet insurance.
Price comparison website moneysupermarket.com recently quoted Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals figures showing an 82 per cent increase in calls regarding animals being injured or anguished on bonfire night last year.
