20 September 2005  Pet cat gives bride away
A couple from Scotland are celebrating their marriage to one another after an extraordinary ceremony in which their pet cat gave the bride away.

Margaret and Bill O'Neill from Ayrshire have been together for 14 years and decided to tie the knot at Dalmellington register office, according to The Daily Record.

As a surprise for Bill, Margaret brought pet cat Bilbo down the aisle with her.

Margaret said: "We kept it secret from Bill and he burst into tears as soon as he saw the cat. Bilbo being there made things perfect.

"He has been like a child to us since we were told we couldn't adopt and I was chuffed to bits."

At one stage, the plan looked unlikely to work as the registrar said the cat would not be allowed to give Margaret away.

A change of heart though meant her perfect wedding could go ahead, much to the delight of her husband Bill.

Bill said: "I'm still in shock. It was really strange but it really made my day."
