30 August 2006  Pet Smile Month to run in autumn
The annual Pet Smile Month for the promotion of dental treatment for cats and dogs is due to run in September this year.

Pet Smile Month is supported by Royal Canin and Pedigree DentaStix in conjunction with pet insurance company Petplan.

Bob Partridge, founder and spokesman of Pet Smile Month, has stressed the importance of dental care for pets.

"We estimate that 80 per cent of cats and dogs over three years old need some form of dental treatment.

"Treating dental disease provides relief from pain and suffering ? it can give animals a whole new lease of life."

Pet Smile Month organisers claim that dental disease is the most common infectious disease of household pets.

Experts recommend toothbrushing with specialised brushes and paste in addition to other preventative measures to reduce the need for painful surgery and claims on cat or dog insurance.
