15 December 2006  Owners told to 'ask the right questions' on pet relocation
People planning on moving home or importing a pet from overseas have been advised to purchase pet insurance and to take care when choosing a service to relocate their pet.

AnimalsAway has urged owners to ensure that they properly research the pet relocation company they select and ask all the relevant questions to guarantee their pet will be properly looked after on its travels.

Anthony Denicker of the company said: "When moving or purchasing a pet, make sure to use a reputable pet shipper that has experience in the industry.

"You should not trust anyone not willing to have a conversation with you."

The company also advised owners to consider buying pet insurance to cover any cases of straying animals, veterinary costs or any potential legal claims relating to the pet.

Earlier this month, Veterinary Pet Insurance reported that the Labrador retriever was the most popular breed of dog insured by the company during 2006.
