27 August 2005  Owners make pets the priority
A new report has revealed that one in five pet owners in the UK love their pets as much as their children.

The survey, carried out by Petplan, showed just how dedicated to their pets Brits can be.

More than ten per cent of us would sacrifice a month's wages as a reward if our pet went missing.

Pets also influence our property decisions, with 21 per cent of people putting their pet's requirements, such as the size of the garden and proximity to parks, as a priority.

Furthermore, nearly half of petowners share their bed with their cat or dog. Whether you are one of those who does or not, the value of pet insurance is one way to show you care.

Petplan's Fiona Pinkney said: "The Brits are known for their love of animals, but this research proves our dedication has reached a new level.

"It's encouraging to see pet owners taking such a huge responsibility for their animals and treating them as a member of the family."
