15 February 2006 Lionel's dog stolen
TV personality Lionel Blair has been left devastated by the apparent kidnap of his pet dog Florence and has resorted to putting up posters and offering a reward in a desperate bid to find her. The crossbreed collie disappeared when Mr Blair's wife took her out for a walk in the park near the couple's home in Surrey.
Lionel, 70, told the daily mirror: "She's just the kindest, sweetest dog. My wife is totally besotted with her. We desperately want her back"
He said the dog's groomed appearance may have fooled the thieves into believing she was a pedigree.
"We got her as a pup from Battersea. She looks like a special breed worth money - but she's ten and only worth anything to us."
Unfortunately Mr Blair's situation can be all too common, but having pet insurance can help financially.
Most pet insurance plans will pay for the costs of advertising and a reward when pets are lost, while some will even pay the purchase price of an animal if it is stolen or dies.
