Pet Insurance News
12 March 2007 Kennel Club: Pet insurance differs by breed
Pet insurance works similarly to car insurance, it has been claimed, with different rates of cover available for different breeds of dog.According to the Kennel Club (KC), a company which works for the care and improvement of dogs, pet insurance provides cover for veterinary costs and if a pet goes missing, but the price can vary depending on the provider.
A spokesperson for the KC said that while some companies may charge differently depending on the breed of dog, some base the price more on the postcode of the owner, similar to motor cover.
However, it was added that the recent winner of this year's dog show, Crufts, will probably not incur a higher rate of insurance.
"The value of the pet may have risen, but that would only affect the fact that the dog might be stolen," the spokesperson remarked.
Willy, a Tibetan terrier, beat thousands of other dogs at this year's Crufts competition to be crowned overall winner.
