07 December 2005  International campaign for pet care
An international campaign to encourage people to raise their awareness of pet care has been launched by US-based Animal Planet.

Although individual pet owners can take responsibility for their pets through providing food and shelter as well as the financial means to care for their animals, such as through pet insurance, the campaign aims to improve all people's awareness of basic care for animals.

Running from January until March 2006, the project features an electronic Animal Planet Healthy Pet Guide; a special pet care and first aid brochure, available in both English and Spanish.

Pet owners as well as all members of the community who receive the guide will be given vital tips on health care information and safety tips, including how to provide basic long-term animal care as well as life-saving advice for emergency situations.

Affiliates of Animal Planet will be able to provide their communities with the guide, reports Indian Television.

The guide will be particularly useful for pet owners in the new year, as millions of people are predicted to buy pets this Christmas time.
