01 September 2005 Impatient pet catches train home
A pet dog from Aberdeenshire has stunned his owner by boarding a train and making his own way home. Archie, a black Labrador, became impatient waiting for his owner Mike Taitt who had left him on a platform whilst looking at a Royal Scotman train.
So Archie boarded a First ScotRail train from Aberdeen to Inverness at Inverurie Station and got off at Insch Station.
Mr Taitt, who feared for the worst after his dog had disappeared, was amazed to receive a phone call telling him that Archie had been found at the station just three miles away from home.
SSPCA spokeswoman Doreen Graham told BBC News: "I think it is quite easy to underestimate the intelligence of animals.
"The fact that Archie got on the right train was probably a coincidence, but he probably knew which stop to get off at because he recognised local smells which made him know he was close to home."
