17 October 2006  Health website launched for pet owners
A health-orientated website for pet owners has been launched and is being supported by a pet insurance provider.

Research conducted last year by insurer More Than claimed that 45 per cent of vets felt pet owners were increasingly aware of their pet's health and the site, at www.pethealthcare.co.uk, offers advice for the prevention of problems alongside recommendations for vets and rescue centres.

Laura Smithson, editor of the website, said: "Our aim is to improve the health of pets in the UK by giving their owners access to the latest information on how to keep them - from feeding and grooming to vacations and training."

She added that the website urged owners to also seek the advice of a vet, but that basic information was being provided for those concerned about the cost of visits to veterinary practices.

With More Than finding that 82 per cent of pets in the UK are not covered by pet insurance, the website also offers details and quotes on cat and dog insurance.
