02 September 2005 Dog shows domesticated touch
The value of having a pet around the house has been taken to new levels by Uska the labrador, who has transformed the life of owner Hayley Rayner. Uska was provided by charity Dogs for the Disabled, and has been a source of great help to Ms Rayner who has multiple sclerosis.
Amazingly, the pet dog can take washing out of the machine and put it in the tumble dryer, turn lights on and off, bring in the post, pick things up that have been dropped on the floor, and help Ms Rayner take her trousers, socks and jumper off.
Ms Rayner will be keen to take out pet insurance for Uska as he has become such a valuable asset to her and her husband Alex, who gave up his job to look after his wife.
Ms Rayner said: "I could barely look after Alex because I haven't got any balance and I have a tremor which means my hands constantly shake and I drop things quite a lot.
"I had to rely on my husband for everything, but having Uska has changed my life and made me more independent."
