28 January 2006 Business loyalty boosted by dog-friendly policies
Workforce loyalty and happiness could be improved if businesses were made more dog-friendly, according to a new survey. Conducted by Simply Hired and Dogster, a community site for dog owners, the survey found that 66 per cent of dog owners said they would work longer hours if they were allowed to bring their pet to work.
A further 32 per cent would be happy to take a pay cut if their dogs were allowed in the workplace.
Just how important an issue this is for dog owners was revealed by the fact that almost half of those surveyed said they would quit their job to work for a more dog-friendly employer.
Commenting on the findings, Ted Rheingold, chief executive officer of Dogster, said: "Companies with dog-friendly policies just get it. And they're breeding a class of happy and loyal employees.
"After all, who wouldn't be happy working with their best friend?" he added.
The survey highlights the growing trend of the 'humanisation' of pets, with owners becoming increasingly willing to provide a better quality of life for their animals through pet insurance and high quality food and living standards.
