04 February 2006 B and Bs set up for dogs
Pet owners who are concerned about the welfare of their dogs while they are away on holiday can benefit from a new boarding scheme set up in Huddersfield. Bed and Biscuits enables owners to leave their pets with animal carers in their homes, rather than paying for them to stay in traditional kennels.
Friends Vicki Walpole and Angela Stringer set up the scheme after Ms Walpole's dog returned from the kennels sick with kennel cough.
"I realised there needed to be an alternative, hence the conception of Bed and Biscuits," Ms Walpole told the Huddersfield Daily Examiner.
Prices of Bed and Biscuits are slightly higher than kennel fees, but a percentage of the cost will go to the Blue Cross Animal Charity and the Animal Aid Organisation.
Bed and Biscuits is part of a growing trend in the UK to provide alternative pet care for concerned owners; in the US this movement has led towards the setting up of pet hotels.
For anxious pet owners pet insurance can provide piece of mind about their pet's health throughout the year.
